Case study:

End-to-end forecourt fit-out for EG On The Move at South Shrewsbury

A complete internal delivery bringing together convenience retail, refrigeration and an integrated Subway concession

Overview

The Jordon Group delivered the complete internal development of EG On The Move’s new South Shrewsbury service station.

Located at Bicton Heath, the site is positioned beside the A5 and Churncote Roundabout. It provides a convenient roadside destination for local shoppers, commuters and traffic travelling between Shrewsbury, Wales and the wider region.

The development brings together fuel, a spacious Co-op convenience store and an extensive food-to-go offer. It also includes a fully integrated Subway concession.

We delivered the retail fit-out, building services and foodservice requirements through one coordinated package. This created a cohesive, operationally ready environment ahead of opening.

Our partnership with the business began in 2001, when we delivered the very first Euro Garages site: Prospect Service Station in Bury. Twenty-five years later, South Shrewsbury marks the latest chapter in a relationship built on trust, collaboration and a shared commitment to quality.

The challenge

South Shrewsbury was a new-to-industry development within a newly constructed building. Therefore, we needed to create the complete retail environment from the ground up.

The store had to accommodate convenience retail alongside substantial chilled and frozen ranges. It also needed space for food-to-go and a fully operational Subway.

At the same time, the layout had to maintain clear customer routes and strong visibility throughout the store.

Each department required a distinct identity. However, the finished environment also needed to feel consistent.

The Jordon Group delivered the refrigeration, HVAC, electrical services, lighting and signage within one programme. Our team also integrated the specialist catering equipment required for Subway.

In addition, the building’s extensive glazing and exposed ceiling structure required careful consideration. The technical installation had to support a busy roadside store without compromising its open, contemporary design.

Our scope

The development was delivered as an end-to-end package. Our team managed the project through to completion.

The scope included:

  • Full interior fit-out and finishes
  • Retail fixtures, shelving and bespoke joinery
  • Design and installation of the commercial refrigeration package
  • HVAC and associated building services
  • Electrical installation and lighting
  • Coordination of retail signage and category zoning
  • Complete internal delivery of the Subway concession
  • Project management and coordination of specialist trades

Together, these in-house capabilities gave EG On The Move greater control over coordination, quality and programme delivery.

The solution

The completed store features an open-plan layout with strong sightlines and clearly defined departments.

Refrigerated cabinets run around the perimeter and support chilled drinks, dairy, fresh food and frozen categories. Meanwhile, the central sales floor provides space for ambient products and promotional displays.

This approach supports an extensive product range without making the store feel enclosed. It also creates a clear and intuitive route through the retail space.

Illuminated signage helps customers identify key departments quickly. These include Chilled Drinks, Dairy, Frozen, Beer, Wine & Liquor and Car Care.

Dark shelving, refrigeration and feature bulkheads contrast with a neutral tiled floor and timber-effect finishes. In addition, linear LED lighting follows the exposed ceiling structure. Together with the full-height glazing, it creates a bright and contemporary environment.

The Subway concession forms an integral part of the customer journey. Jordon coordinated its branded finishes, preparation areas and specialist equipment. Our scope also included the service counter, glazed display and digital menu screens.

As a result, Subway sits naturally within the wider store rather than appearing as a separate addition.

The result

The Jordon Group, part of Bellrock Group, managed the package through one coordinated project team. As a result, we provided a clear route from an empty building to a fully fitted retail and foodservice operation.

The project demonstrates Jordon’s ability to deliver complex forecourt developments in house. It brings together fit-out, refrigeration, HVAC and specialist foodservice expertise through one experienced team.

South Shrewsbury also marks the latest chapter in a partnership spanning 25 years. From delivering the first Euro Garages site in 2001 to supporting today’s EG On The Move estate, that relationship continues to grow and evolve.
